Hiking Mount Pemigewasset and Mountain Thanksgiving Camping Overnight - Indian Head Trail
Spent the weekend up in New Hampshire again. We hiked Mt Pemigewasset via the Indian Head Trail. Its a pretty quick and easy 1.8 or so miles up about 1500ft of elevation to the summit. The views are quite amazing especially for the effort put in to get there. After we hit the summit we back tracked down to the car and drove over to the Hancock Campground to hang out for the night. The Hancock Campground ended up surprisingly busy. Possibly due to the holiday, or maybe that is business as usual this time of year. It is one of the only campgrounds I am aware of open in the winter. We also fired up a quick Thanksgiving meal to eat that night, with plenty of leftover desserts to choose from t...

How The White Mountains Roasted Me on Instagram - Story Time With Chris
Просмотров 2 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Welcome to episode of Story Time with Chris. In today's episode I will tell you the story of how the White Mountains National Forest official Instagram page absolutely roasted me on. The act was many years ago, but the pain... is still fresh... After this story perhaps you will understand slightly better why I think social media is pretty lame. Some of the gear I usually use listed below HMG So...
The Lesser Traveled Mt Lafayette Loop - Skookumchuck & Greenleaf Trail - Hiking the White Mountains
Просмотров 2 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Back up hiking in New Hampshire this week. Decided to take a day hike up the Skookumchuck Trail. It has been on my list to do for quite some time. With the weather outlook that night and following day looking rough I felt it would make a great day hike. Made it up to the ridge line and was still feeling pretty high energy so decided to make the push up to Mt Lafayette and down the Greenleaf tra...
Solo Hike & Camp In The Dry River Wilderness - Crawford Path Mt Clinton Trail Dry River Cutoff
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Continuing on my goal of hiking all the trails in the White Mountain National Forest I went out to finish off the the Crawford Path, Mt Clinton Trail, Dry River Trail Cutoff, Crawford Cliff, and the Mizpah Cutoff. I made a fun little loop though it was essentially viewless, it was some good solid wilderness woods walking. Kind of iffy weather on day 1 but the iffy weather kind of set the wilder...
Pond Trails and Trail Views - Hiking Mt Israel Algonquin Trail Guinea Pond Trail Meader Trail
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.10 месяцев назад
This weekend I hiked a loop starting off Sandwich Notch Rd. The loop took us through the Guinea Pond Trail, then the Meader Trail up to Mt Israel. We back tracked Meader Trail and then hit the Black Mountain Pond Trail to Black Mountain Pond to camp for the night. The next morning we continued up the Black Mountain Pond Trail enjoying some bouldery scrambles and great views. Then proceeded down...
Why I Haven't Been Making Hiking Gear Videos
Просмотров 6 тыс.10 месяцев назад
Recently I was included in a video by @rootsandpeaks about his favorite hiking / backpacking RUclips creators. I thought the video was well done and of course it was nice to be included. In the video he gives a brief description about the channel and mentions that I haven't made a gear video in quite some time and have essentially moved to on trail videos exclusively. That summary is very accur...
Solo Overnight Hiking Mt Field - Mt Avalon - Zeacliff - Mt Hale - Hiking the White Mountains

This weekends hike brought me to the Zealand Trailhead. The plan was to go over and hike to Mt Field, Mt Avalon, and possibly Mt Tom, across the A-Z Trail and Mt Avalon Trail. Then to backtrack and camp somewhere along the A-Z Trail or the Ethan Pond Trail and head up to Zeacliff via the Zeacliff Trail the next morning. After Zeacliff, then over the Lend-a-Hand Trail to Mt Hale. Down the Hale B...

l think l was 8 or so when my family and l hiked lmp Face. 60 years ago. At the top l found out that my older brother, who hung back, was afraid of heights. l ventured much closer to the edge. l must have been a tireless billy goat back then. When l revisited the Webster Cliff Trail [White Mtns] sometime since 2000 l was shocked at how relentlessly steep the trail was. All's l noticed whenever we went up Webster Cliff was the the clouds were MC Escher dramatic and the cliff-top view was spectacular. Way back when! Nice, nostalgic vid. Thanks!

I have a question that has been bothering me for a long time and I can't find the answer. On the one hand, I keep reading/hearing that the cartridge should not be exposed to high temperatures. On the other hand, the burner (especially the one screwed onto the cartridge) heats up to very high temperatures and is in direct contact with the cartridge. The problem especially concerns small burners from China, such as the BSR3000. I always have concerns and fear in the back of my mind. Please explain.

Mine started to glow red and bend/melt with a pot of water in a Stanley pot. Wasnt even on high. Did buy on Amazon but it seems like the real thing... Was next to water and it may have been windy blowing the flame into the arm. At least thats what I think happened.

i got the Etek city super cheap one from amazon used it a few times no issues yet, though mine only has to last as long as the fuel can as it is part of an emergency bug out bag i hope to never need. i still break it out and use it to maintain the skill of cooking that way a few times a month. primary stove is a multi-fuel stove though it wont boil water fast like these little rocket butane stoves.

This is one of the saddest brag videos I've ever seen on YT. Heck, if you really wanna brag I have pictures of me with my Svea 123 and my old Optimus 8R from the late 70's .......

I’m planning a variation of this next weekend (Kinsmans via Fishin Jimmy / Cascade Brook) to get more AT section miles and add to my NH48. It looked like you parked overnight at the Basin lot. On other hikes I’ve parked farther South in the lot South of Liberty Spring trail. Is Basin an ok spot for winter overnights and does it have a paystation or is it free?
